Top Dog-Friendly Beaches in Marin

As the dog days of summer approach, it's the perfect time to take your dog (see what I did there?) to the beach to cool off. Here are a few of the top dog-friendly beaches in Marin:

• Stinson Beach: Like Miami Beach for dogs, it's one of the more popular spots (note: they're only allowed on the north end). Go at low tide so you can walk to the mouth of the Bolinas Lagoon, and don't forget to swing by Breakers Cafe or Parkside Cafe, both of which offer dog-friendly seating.

• Muir Beach: Perfect for a more scenic, rugged option, located halfway between Stinson and the Marin Headlands. Cool off with a pint afterwards at the Pelican Inn on their dog-friendly lawn. (Note: dogs at Muir Beach are required to be on leash or under voice control.)

• Rodeo Beach: A stone's throw from the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, this beach is also home to Bird Rock, where you (and especially your bird dog) can do some bird-watching while playing in the waves. As this is a smaller beach, it is recommended to time your visit accordingly (especially if your dog isn't a fan of crowds).
